The situation sucks

Yes, the situation you’re struggling with sucks. But answer this question:

Are you going to let it stop you?

If the answer is no, great! But then that raises another question:

If you’re not going to let your current circumstances stop you, what are you doing beating yourself up and making yourself feel miserable when you could be pushing forward and working on overcoming whatever it is you are struggling with?

Sometimes opportunity will come knocking

Sometimes opportunity will come knocking. But most of the time, it’s you that has to get off your butt, go door to door, and do the knocking yourself.

You create opportunities with your actions.

A sign that someone is being themselves

Do you know how you can tell when someone is likely being themselves? When they don’t always act according to social norms.

Trying to be like anyone or everyone else is not being yourself.

* Of course, this can also be a sign of discomfort or ignorance of local customs. But in many cases, if someone is comfortable being “weird” around you, then they are likely comfortable expressing themselves as they prefer to be vs what society expects.

Skip and volume control (for your mind)

When you don’t like a song in your playlist or grow tired of one, what do you do? Do you play it even louder? Do you put it on repeat?

No. You skip the song and play something you like better. Because you control your playlist.

So why then would you play the same old tired negative thoughts when they pop into your head over and over again?

You control your thoughts. Learn to hit skip.

To thine own self be true

The consequences of continually catering to others people’s expectations can affect everything in our lives, from the types of jobs we hold, to what we buy with our money, to the people we have relationships with, and how happy and fulfilled we are as a result. This is why if one wants to truly live an authentic and fulfilling life, it’s important to not only know thyself, but “To thine own self be true.”
